Tanning Lotion For Sunbeds – Which is the best and how to apply it?

I don’t know why, but I’ve always felt better in my body in the summer when I was more tanned. I have always had extremely pale skin that barely tans in the sun. From a young age, summer tanned skin has been my go-to for a confidence boost. If I’m happy with my appearance then I feel like I have a more positive attitude throughout the day. True self-confidence to me means being happy in your own skin and having the ability to encourage others to feel the same. In the summer clothes looked nicer on me, I didn’t use makeup and I felt like I looked more glowy.

I once read that there is actually some sort of connection between a tanned complexion and well-being. Exposure to UV rays actually releases endorphins in the body. Endorphins release that ”feel good” emotion in our bodies. Along with endorphins, vitamin D which is something that our bodies obtain from the sun is said to help us with that good mood boost.

But unfortunately, I can’t lay on the beaches of Maui throughout the whole year, so I decided to visit the sunbed salon a few times a year. Due to the nature of my skin, my tanned complexion disappears very quickly. And guess what, I found a solution. The solution is called Tanning lotion.

Creams and lotions for boosting up your tanning process are NOT self-tanning creams. This means that if you want to get a beautiful tanned complexion with the help of a cream or lotion you still need to be exposed to the sun’s rays.

Tanning lotions, such as Tanzzo’s, contain specific ingredients that are absorbed into the skin to encourage the movement of melanocytes to the surface of the skin, maximising the tanning potential of your session.

Do you know that by using tanning creams and lotions you can get a deeper tan that lasts longer? YUUP, that’s true! Tanning creams or tanning lotions are specially designed to enhance and accelerate the tanning process. The most important thing is that you can find ingredients that maintain your skin’s moisture.

It is not a secret that moist skin tans better, since it absorbs a greater percentage of UV light. UV light is responsible for the production of melanin and ”browning” of your skin colour. Listen to this, I was amazed when I found that out. It takes 5-6 minutes for UV rays to penetrate dry skin and only 30 seconds when you are moisturised. What?!

But first, you need to prep your skin and EXFOLIATION is the key! It is really important to thoroughly exfoliate before sunbathing on the beach or starting a UV tanning programme in a sunbed. Exfoliating before a UV programme means that you are tanning new skin cells, not dead cells that are due to be sloughed off. A patchy tan result is due to not exfoliating in the majority of cases!

In general, it is beneficial if you implement exfoliation in your regular skincare. Although I am aware of this, sometimes I forget myself… The purpose of exfoliation is actually to remove dead cells from the top layer of your skin. Its main function is to remove excess cells that your body no longer needs. Exfoliation causes new, healthy cells to come to the surface.

We know several different types of exfoliations. The most common are mechanical, chemical and enzymatic. Chemical exfoliation is the most invasive, so there is never too much caution! I suggest that you first consult your dermatologist, who will tell you what is best for your skin. My favourite so far is mechanical exfoliations, because they not only remove dead cells, but also have sooo many other benefits for your skin. They help to clean your pores and improve the appearance and circulation of your skin. It is easy to use, which is another reason why I love it myself. You can easily include it in your weekly routine.

And what’s best is that you can make it yourself with ingredients you find in your kitchen.

If you have no idea what to incorporate in your scrub… I GOT YOU BABE! Here is one simple recipe for an easy homemade scrub.

Recipe:

1/4 cup honey

1 tbsp white or brown sugar

2 tbsp yoghurt

½ tsp lemon

Mix together and gently scrub onto skin for 30 seconds, then rinse with warm water.

Whether is summer or winter you can still maintain a beautiful tan that boosts your confidence. It doesn’t matter if you sunbathe on the beach or in sunbeds, as long as you prep the skin and create the perfect canvas for your glowy tan.
